Biography

yörgy Mészáros is a German-Hungarian conductor with extensive experience in the European opera and concert scene. After several years as Kapellmeister and as deputy and interim General Music Director, he now works internationally as a freelance conductor. His repertoire spans from Baroque through classical opera and Romantic works to 20th- and 21st-century compositions, covering both opera and a wide symphonic spectrum.

As a guest conductor, Mészáros works regularly with orchestras in the German-speaking region as well as in Hungary. His most recent engagements include concerts with the Miskolc Symphony Orchestra and his debut with the Szeged Symphony Orchestra.

In opera, Mészáros has developed a broad repertoire ranging from Baroque opera through Mozart to Richard Strauss. A particular focus lies on Mozart: he has conducted all major operas in his own musical preparation, demonstrating his ability to combine historical stylistic awareness with dynamic dramatic interpretation. Beyond the classical repertoire, he also engages with contemporary and experimental productions, most recently Richard Strauss’ Elektra at the Theater Brandenburg.

Born in Budapest and trained in Vienna, Mészáros developed the majority of his professional career in Germany and Austria. Since 2010, he has lived in Germany, regularly working with orchestras and opera houses across the German-speaking region.

His conducting combines analytical approach with vibrant musical interpretation and is distinguished by precise rehearsal technique and close collaboration with soloists and orchestras.
